As of the 4 p.m. advisory, Sara was a weakening tropical depression straddling the area between Mexico and Guatemala, according to the National Hurricane Center. The system is expected to move into the Gulf of Mexico in the next day but will dissipate at that point.

Tropical Storm Sara formed this afternoon and threatens to bring "life-threatening and potentially catastrophic flash flooding and mudslides" to Honduras throughout the weekend, according to the latest update from the National Hurricane Center. A turn toward Florida is still possible, forecasters said.

After producing feet of rain over countries in Central America, moisture associated with the remnants of Sara are expected to stream northward, increasing the chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms mid-week along the Gulf Coast. The moisture is forecast to combine with a significant frontal boundary pushing through the country.
