LUBBOCK, Texas — An outbreak of measles has struck the South Plains region of Texas, with 90 cases reported since late January, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).

The number of measles cases linked to an outbreak in West Texas has grown to 58, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Measles is a respiratory virus that can survive in the air for up to two hours. Up to 9 out of 10 people who are susceptible will get the virus if exposed, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
