Mookie Betts hits a tiebreaking solo homer in the eighth inning, helping the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the San Diego Padres 5-4 on Sunday.

Betts’ eighth-inning home run breaks a 4-4 tie and completes the sweep with a 5-4 win over the Padres. It also extends a hot streak born of a different approach.

According to MLB Pipeline, the Padres' farm system after such a wild trade deadline ranked dead last in baseball. In the preseason, they ranked 25th, but after a wild deadline, Jim Callis, Sam Dykstra, and Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com had an easy time ranking the Padres in last place.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said the league plans to have an answer shortly about who will receive the national TV package beginning in 2026 that ESPN currently holds.

The Padres entered their weekend series at Dodger Stadium in unfamiliar territory at this juncture of a season -- in first place. They had overturned a nine-game deficit and rode a five-game winning streak into Los Angeles.
