WASHINGTON, June 18 (Reuters) - The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Thursday it would make available $107 million in emergency funding to strengthen its domestic and international response to the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.
The CDC issued an update on the deadly hantavirus outbreak linked to a polar cruise ship, saying the risk to the general public remains low.
Earlier this year, the CDC announced updated recommendations that would reduce the number of recommended immunizations for children from 17 to 11.
Since the Trump administration took office in January 2025, the workforce at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has weathered uncertainty and change. Mass firings, communication freezes, political interference in the CDC’s scientific mission and a revolving door of leaders have created a challenging work environment for the CDC’s employees.
The group previously supported an alternative schedule after the CDC removed COVID-19 vaccines from federal guidelines.
