A First Alert Weather Day is active today as a strong cold front moves toward the coast, bringing the threat for severe thunderstorms, damaging wind gusts, and a few tornadoes this afternoon into early evening.
Temperatures in some places plunged as much as 40 to 50 degrees in 24 hours. On Wednesday, Washington, D.C., hit 86 degrees, shattering a same-day record of 79. Even at 5 a.m. Thursday morning, it was 75 degrees.
Threats include tornados, hail, damaging winds, and even isolated flash flooding. Colder temperatures arrive later in the afternoon Monday, with a freezing night to follow.
A significant if not historic winter storm will impact the region Saturday late night into Monday.
At 3:33 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, the National Weather Service released an updated winter weather advisory valid from 8 p.m. EDT until Wednesday 10 a.m. EDT for Midland, Bay, Huron, Saginaw and Tuscola counties.
