BIRMINGHAM – University of South Carolina junior baseball pitcher Josh Gunther has been named the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Pitcher of the Week, it was announced this afternoon (March 2). Gunther picked up the honor for his performance in Carolina’s win over rival Clemson.

Clemson has also won nine of the last 12 three-game rivalry series against USC and 12 of its last 15 games against the Gamecocks. Bakich improved to 8-3 against South Carolina, and USC coach Paul Mainieri dropped to 1-5 vs. Clemson.

Dawn Staley and the No. 3 Gamecocks held off No. 16 Kentucky for a 60-56 victory in its 2025-26 season finale on the road in Memorial Coliseum. The 60 points was the least South Carolina has scored all season. It’s the 10th time South Carolina has held an SEC opponent to less than 60 points.

Against its three home-and-home opponents in SEC play this season, South Carolina men’s basketball hasn’t fared very well.

After Clemson and South Carolina split the first two, the rubber match of the Palmetto Series is Sunday afternoon at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
