Monday night’s win over the Buffalo Sabres wasn’t just another victory for the Carolina Hurricanes — it was a performance shaped in the crease by an emerging star between the pipes.
Forward Andrei Svechnikov scored for a career-high-tying third straight game, netting his fifth in that span. Svechnikov has now notched 17 goals this season, tied with Sebastian Aho for the second-most among Hurricanes skaters.
Bussi pulled his groin halfway into the opening game, costing him nearly his entire sophomore season. He came back as a junior and won the fourth-most games in the NCAA, and eventually signed with the Bruins in April 2022.

During intermission of the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 win against the Buffalo Sabres on Monday, the TNT crew showed a photo of a young Bussi in a New York Rangers jersey alongside Henrik Lundqvist. In the photo, Bussi, who grew up on Long Island, appears to be no older than a grade schooler.
