Fort Pierce, FL — A semi-truck driver who entered the country illegally and later secured a commercial driver’s license in California is now charged with three counts of vehicular homicide after a deadly crash on the Florida Turnpike that left three people dead.

Deputies said Jones Loop Road at Mac Drive will be closed Thursday morning, after a fatal crash. The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.

The Florida Highway Patrol, alongside federal ICE Partners, Homeland Security Investigations, and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, launched the first-of-its-kind Panhandle Immigration Enforcement Operation.

Speaking in Panama City, he and other officials highlighted a “first-of-its-kind” operation which saw the Florida Highway Patrol work with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in the Panhandle to target illegal immigrants, with 200 already apprehended and more to come.

Snipes led a trooper on a 30-mile chase that reportedly reached speeds of 135 mph along Florida's Turnpike, and he crashed his 1,100-cc Kawasaki motorcycle at the Jupiter exit. Snipes was not injured in the crash and was released into the custody of his publicist after being charged, according to TCPalm archives.

A Florida Highway Patrol car was hit during a chain-reaction crash on I-10 in Gadsden County. Three other vehicles were involved, troopers said.
