This wizard, which you can see in Figure 1, has the ability to expand a virtual hard disk (VHD) to allow it to accommodate additional data. It can also convert a VHD from one architecture to another.

I used Starwind to convert the VHD to a VMDK, then added that to a VMPlayer VM, and it booted. Strangely Disk2VHD's conversion added another option to the Windows bootloader.
