The 2011 Optima is available in three all-new and fuel-efficient Theta II powerplants, a 2.4-liter GDI four-cylinder, a 2.0-liter GDI turbo engine or a 2.4-liter hybrid.

The Sonata is also available with a 1.6-liter turbo GDI making 180 PS and 264 Nm (194 lb-ft), a normal 2-liter engine, another 2-liter that runs on LPG, the hybrid drive, and the PHEV system.

Kia's 2.0-liter GDI turbo engine makes a return appearance on the SXL and SX Turbo models, producing 247 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque.

The Optima has been around since 2012, but the so-called GDI engine under the bonnet is brand new. It’s still a four-cylinder mill, and it still has a 2,4-litre capacity.

Those engines are found in 2011 to 2015 Kia Optima, 2011 to 2014 Hyundai Sonatas and 2013 to 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sports. The automakers have recalled most of those vehicles since January.

Prices will range from $21,840 for the LX with a 2.4-liter engine up to $35,790 for the SXL version equipped with the 2.0-liter turbocharged GDI 4-cylinder engine.
