GULF SHORES, Ala. (WSFA) - Last week, we introduced you to Gulf State Park, and talked all about the sharks during Shark Week but there’s so much more to this state park than just the gulf.

GULF SHORES, Alabama -- The fire that has burned more than 600 acres of the Alabama Gulf State Park was being contained today as officials monitored the weather and the progress of the blaze.

This charming Alabama lake is tucked away in Gulf State Park, and it's a hidden gem that's great for fishing, swimming, kayaking, and hiking.

Alabama has several state parks, and at many of them, projects are underway to enhance the overall visitor experience.

The new lodge replaces the original Gulf State Park Lodge, which opened in 1974, with 144 rooms in 12 two-story buildings – plus another building with a lobby, restaurant and meeting space.
