Mega Millions is a multi-state lottery, so each state's rules may vary. In some states, winning tickets can be redeemed at local authorized sellers under a certain dollar amount.

Mega Millions is played in 45 states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The five states that do not participate in this lottery are Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah.

The anonymous winner purchased the ticket at E & C Mid Atlantic, located at 14878 Northumberland Highway in Burgess and matched all six winning numbers: 18-21-29-42-50 and the Mega Ball number 2. The store was given a check for the $50,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

The Powerball jackpot has hit $700 million after no one matched all six numbers in the Wednesday, Aug. 20 drawing.
