The Miami-based National Hurricane Center reported Fernand was located some 295 miles (475 kilometers) east of Bermuda by late Sunday afternoon.

According to the hurricane center, Fernand was forecast to remain over the open ocean well east and northeast of Bermuda. "Some strengthening is possible today. Weakening is expected to begin tonight, and Fernand is expected to become post-tropical on Wednesday," the center said.

The storm is moving toward the north-northeast near 12 mph, and this motion is expected to continue for the next day or so, followed by a turn to the northeast, according to the hurricane center. Fernand is expected to begin weakening on Monday night, Aug. 25, and is expected to become post-tropical by Wednesday, Aug. 27.
