An American Airlines flight nearly crashed into a mountain range in Hawaii but avoided disaster by quickly gaining altitude. Flight 298, en route to Los Angeles, had just departed from Honolulu at 12:30 a.

An American Airlines flight departing from Hawaii had to make an "expedited climb" in order to avoid hitting a mountain during takeoff. There are no reports of injuries on the flight and the Federal Aviation Administration will be investigating.
