Flooding in North Carolina prompted water rescues in Chapel Hill and other parts of the state, which saw the Haw River crest at 32.5 feet early Monday.

Tropical Storm Chantal caused significant flooding and road closures across central North Carolina, particularly in Chatham and Orange Counties. The Haw River reached its second-highest recorded level, cresting at 32.5 feet. Local states of emergency were declared in several counties, and roughly 120 roads remained closed as of Monday afternoon.
