NORTH PORT — After two days without much of either, the Rays got sharp pitching and a couple of key hits Sunday. And, thus, they also got their first win of the spring, beating the Braves 4-2.

Chandler Simpson made quite the web gem in the Tampa Bay Rays' second Grapefruit League game on Saturday, robbing Marcelo Mayer and the Boston Red Sox of an extra-base hit.

Despite the 1 for 4 official stat line, Mayer did plenty of heavy lifting at the plate. He drove home an RBI drew a walk and hit a rope to the gap in left-center that likely would have dropped in for a base hit nine out of 10 times. Unfortunately for Mayer, Rays center fielder Chandler Simpson made a beautiful diving catch to rob Mayer.

The first full week of the 2025 MLB Spring Training season is underway for the Tampa Bay Rays at Charlotte Sports Park in Port Charlotte.
