SAN DIEGO — Xander Bogaerts of the San Diego Padres had a home run overturned due to fan interference, and manager Mike Shildt was ejected for coming out of the dugout to talk to the umpires in the second inning of the game against the San Francisco Giants.
Though the fan didn't make contact with the ball or Heliot Ramos, a review resulted in an interference call that negated a homer.
Jackson Merrill, however, is not as the 22-year-old center fielder will miss a third straight game since leaving Sunday with left ankle discomfort. Shortstop Xander Bogaerts will also sit after he was hit by a pitch and took a foul ball off his shin on Tuesday.
