A Kent farmer in the early 17th century named Nicholas Wood became known as the Great Eater of Kent. Born around 1585, his legendary appetite entertained local gentry. A 1630 pamphlet recounts how he once ate 84 rabbits at Lord Wotton's home, 30 dozen pigeons on another occasion, and even finished a whole hog before swallowing three pecks of damsons.
